years ago my friend, Byron was reading white teeth by zadie smith and he claimed i would love it. of course, whenever someone tells me i would love a book, i decide promptly that i just won't read it. ok, so it's not such a conscious decision. but i think it's linked.
anyway, i finally read it. soooo loved it. it won the whitbread first novel award years and years ago and it's the kind of first novel that makes me so jealous because frankly, it's kind of genius
it's about race, class, gender, religion, history...humanity. it's about life in this century and how we manage to evolve despite ourselves.
